Student Profile| Chris Bicourt |Stoneridge Class

Jan 9, 2011 by     1 Comment     Posted under: Bedfordview/Edenvale, Student Profiles

My Name:

Chris Bicourt

My Apelido:

Has been at various times (in order) “Zangado” (Angry), “Samurai”, and I think something relating to a beetle…

What does your apelido mean and how did you get it?

When I started, Zangado was because I had such a serious face when I played. Samurai came much later because I used to tie my hair back but it wasn’t long enough so looked a bit like a Samurai’s hair style (apparently). But I since left that group.

Cordel: Have graded to 3rd belt in two different groups.

Base Class: Stoneridge

My Age: 33

My Birthday: 2 January 1977

What line of work are you in, or what are you studying?

Graphic and Multimedia Design

How did you get into Capoeira?

Private Snowball off of Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” was in my class at college. He was training to be a stunt man and one of the disciplines he was learning was this thing called Capoeira.

How long have you been involved in Capoeira for?

Since about 1998

What is your Favourite Capoeira move?

I’m a fan of the armada dupla, but I can’t do it. I guess I’m kind of partial to the ese-dobrado.

How has Capoeira had an impact on your lifestyle?

Capoeira has helped me to value being healthy, strong and flexible, and to appreciate the awesome thing that is the human body. I’ve learnt about music, and dance, and through Capoeira I got into Samba, which is a big part of my life now. I’ve met some amazing people and made some great friends, all of whom have opened my mind. Most of all, it started me learning Portuguese and took me to Brazil – two things which have enriched my life immeasurably.

What moves are you looking to perfect over the next 6 months?

Raíz, reversao, salto mortal & helicopter, parafuso. Ambitious, I know.

If you were an item of food, what would you be?

One of those dark chocolates they give you with your coffee at Vida e Caffe.

If you were a rabid animal, whom would you bite?

The first person that came near me.

What song do you hate the most right now?

The one that goes “Pull Up To My Bumper, baby!”

Did just mentioning that song make it get stuck in your head?

Yes. Thanks a lot.

Do you have any super powers?

“Pull up to my bumper baby”

If you were a light bulb, how many people would it take to change you?

Three gorgeous Brazilian women

What are your favourite sayings?

Love many, trust few.

Life is like a watermelon – it’s big, it’s juicy, but it’s full of pips.

Favourite musician(s)/bands you’ve seen in concert?

Seun Kuti (son of Fela, although I wish I’d seen Fela when he was still alive) – he’s an awesome performer on stage. And Ty – a British Rapper who’s been on the scene since the mid 90s, has a unique flow, no airs and graces, and still keeps it real.
